Our friend Kelly Jahraus is a dyed-in-the-wool crochet evangelist. She certainly hooked us with this scarf! We love that it has the look of a delicate lace stitch but is—we kid you not—all simple single crochet. The secret is the humongous hook, which takes a little getting used to, but then it flies!

Scarf: Approx. 10 x 80"/25 x 203cm, blocked.
Wrap: Approx. 18 x 90"/46 x 229cm, blocked.
YARN
Scarf: 1 skein Alchemy Haiku (325 yds/297m); shown lower right in Color Spider Orchid.
Or approx. 325 yds/297m of an equivalent lace-weight mohair yarn.
Wrap: 3 skeins (229 yds/210m each); shown lower left and center in Color 639.
Or approx. 687 yds/628m of an equivalent lace-weight mohair yarn.

Size P (11.5mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge.

8.5 sts/9 rows in sc = 4"/10cm, before blocking.

KNITTER'S NOTES
Crocheting very fine yarn on a very large hook takes a bit of practice, but is totally worth the effort. The lacy effect is dramatic—and nothing beats it for speed! Practice making use of your non-crocheting hand to manipulate and open up the stitch before inserting your hook. After a while, you won't even notice you're doing it.
